Western Canada’s Largest Microtunneling Pipe Supplier

Northwest Inner City Microtunnel

for the Upper Plateau Sewer Separation Project

Langley Concrete Group played a pivotal role in this Project by producing the 3.4-meter internal diameter pipes used by Ward & Burke Construction. These massive pipes, each crafted with precision and durability, were essential for the project’s success.
Manufactured in Chilliwack, the pipes were shipped one piece per load to Calgary on special low bed trailer, ensuring safe and efficient transportation. This logistical feat highlights our commitment to quality and reliability in delivering critical infrastructure components.

No-Dig North 2023 Canadian Project of the Year

for a New Installation

Was awarded to the Northwest Inner City Micro-tunnelling Project, this groundbreaking project involved the construction of a 756-meter long micro-tunnel with a 3.4-meter internal diameter. The tunnel was designed to intercept and convey stormwater from the Upper Plateau area to a new outfall on the Bow River, bypassing the Sunnyside community.
The project was initiated in response to the devastating floods that hit Calgary in 2013, which highlighted the need for improved flood resiliency in the city1. The microtunnel serves as a gravity siphon, eliminating the need for pumps and electricity, thus ensuring reliable operation during emergencies1. The tunnel travels under a light rail line and greenspace, showcasing advanced trenchless technology and sustainable urban infrastructure development.
